HAPPY BIRTHDAY: WWII veteran celebrates 100 years of adventure and love

The Baltimore native served in World War II, bravely navigating both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters aboard destroyers.

He also served during the Korean War and his travels led him all over the world.
“I lived in Germany twice, Berlin,” Kemp said. “I lived in Nigeria, Africa.”

His globetrotting adventures were a testament to time spent in the defense industry.

Kemp earned numerous battle stars and says one of his greatest accomplishments was marrying his late wife, Iris Bridget.
“Oh my Gosh. I had so many life experiences, he said. “I was married for 66 years.”
He attributes that successful marriage to hard work and his mother’s advice.

“When I was 14-years-old, my mother sat me down and said to me that girls are special and you should put them on a pedestal,” he said.
Bob remains in good health and enjoys socializing at the Delta Senior Center, where he has made many friends.

Those friends put on a special surprise for his major milestone of turning 100-years-old!
“I couldn’t believe my eyes when they all came in and hollered, happy birthday,” he said.
Bob has packed a lot of life and friendship into the past 100 years.

He believes the connections he’s made at the senior center have improved the quality of his life.

Even at 100-years-old, the baseball fanatic still has a good sense of humor.
“I rooted for the Yankees my first 100 years,” said Kemp. “The second 100, I’m going to root for the Orioles,” he laughed.
