Business Leader Sunjay Kapur Dies at 53

Sunjay Kapur, billionaire and chairman of auto parts company Sona Comstar, died on June 12 at the age of 53. His sudden passing occurred the same day as an Air India crash in Ahmedabad that killed over 200 people. On social media, Kapur had written, “Terrible news of the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad. My thoughts and prayers are with all the families affected.”

Kapur, a passionate polo player, reportedly died after swallowing a bee during a game in Windsor, UK. He is believed to have gone into anaphylactic shock — a severe allergic reaction. As the Mayo Clinic explains, “It can occur within seconds or minutes of exposure to something you’re allergic to, such as peanuts or bee stings.” Symptoms include airway constriction, rapid pulse, and low blood pressure, and can be fatal without immediate treatment.

Tributes and Legacy

Sona Comstar released a statement saying, “We are deeply saddened by the sudden demise of our Chairman, Mr Sunjay Kapur. He was a visionary leader whose passion, insight and dedication shaped the identity and success of our company.”

A close friend told The Telegraph, “He will be greatly missed… he was fun, kind and generous. He didn’t distinguish between his grooms or high net worth friends – when he had a party, everyone was invited and everyone was equal.”
